This is an effect I see on a regular basis where I live not far from Hobart airport. Aircraft lights move right to left on take off then turn into a fore/aft heading which makes the lights appear almost stationary, but getting smaller, as in this video. Any camera movement makes for unusual effects unless the camera is fixed on a tripod and does not move. Being a black sky there are no ground
