Seen this before in Wales. More likely they are chinese lanterns. When we watched a load of these let off from a distance when they flicker they disappear then re-appear. The travel indicates they are just moving with the wind. No sign of speed or moving in different directions

In suffolk two years ago there was a rash of UFO sightings, coinciding with the setting up of a business in fire lanterns in Ipswich. Everybody was letting them off for parties. The excitement is great to hear though.:-)
Already solved this over on ATS, it's parachute flares fired at Otterburn ranges which is 30 miles away, if you check the website for the Otterburn range, there was a live fire exercise that night.
