According to the newly publicly revealed materials, U.S. Air Force had close relationship with now-defunct Canadian firm and closely worked together for the plan of making a unique kind of aircraft. Project 1794 managed to reach as far as creating prototype design. The memo starting in 1956 summarizes results of prototype testing and reveals the exact goal of developers.
The saucer was planned to have a ceiling of more than 100,000 feet and a maximum range of around 1,000 nautical miles, as noted on the document.
If the plan was followed until the end, they would have made a flying saucer which could reach at the Earth’s stratosphere with 2, 600 miles per hour as an average top speed. The craft could also take off and land vertically (VTOL) with the help of propulsion jets for control and stabilization of it.
The document somewhat tells that the actual development of the saucer was better than originally expected. It says that the present design had more superior performance than what was initially expected.
Many wonder why the plan was not finished to the end and why wars were not fought with flying saucers. It was maybe because of the cost to build prototype which was estimated to be at $3, 168,000 which is equivalent to $26.6 million in today’s money. The amount would have been considered as too much for the development of such advanced technology. Problems in creating such technology also contributed to the decision to stop the project such as it did not get anywhere near 100,000 feet in altitude, only five to six feet.
Video: A USAF saucer in flight (sort of)
I remember when this was first Tested!THE TOP BRASS didn't KNOW THIS WAS FLYING HIGHER ON ANOTHER TEST FLIGHT! THIS MODEL WORKED! -ONLY THERE WAS AN INVERSION OF AIR, PREVENTING LIFT-OFF, at this test sight! (It could have been lifted by anyone, several inches! THAT WOULD HAVE DISPLACED THE VITAL air-FLOW, -THEN IT WOULD HAVE LIFTED-OFF!!)
Yes it worked. It was manufactured/designed at AVRO. Need I say more? It worked but government(s) did not want the tv/newsreel population to know it. So they make a half hearted b/s clip to show the people.
Id like to point out the name "Project 1794". Rearrange the numbers, 1947 is the year Roswell happened.
